What Feels Like Summer To You?

This streak of gorgeous weathers feels more like August than the middle of May…but I will take it. We are heading up to Rhode Island for the weekend to get in on this summer fun.

Does summer bring out your arsenal of brightly colored clothing? Does it remind you of popsicles, beach balls, sun tan lotion, and wild fun? The below rooms are packed with color, whimsy, and do not take themselves to seriously, just like you!

Do you like your white linen dress to be crisp, not a wrinkle in your slacks, navy and white stripped bow tie to sit just so? These cool clean rooms may be a great jumping off point for you:

Is summer your time to kick back, relax, and let the sand fall where it may? If so, the rooms below are for you with their sparse furniture plans, slip covers, and sisal carpets.

Happy Friday!!

Holland And Sherry Showroom NYC

One of my favorite showrooms in the D and D Building is Holland and Sherry. They carry high quality lines that pack a punch with color and pattern. As some of you know, the Holland and Sherry line of fabrics is supplied to tailors and luxury brands all over the world for jackets, pants, and coats (I have spied Holland and Sherry’s book in my husband’s tailors shop). They supply various materials from cotton, wool, and cashmere, to worsted Vicuna! These beautiful tweeds, plaids, and solid fabrics have come in handy when the need arrises for a dapper sofa or a sharp pair of drapes.

Holland and Sherry Fabrics:

The above two images are of a sampling of their Spring line of fabrics you may find at your tailor as well as in the showroom.

Above fabrics are also part of Holland and Sherry’s line (from left to right): mohair velvet, heavy wool herringbone, and seersucker.

C & C Milano:

I have a penchant for linen and C C Milano makes some of the finest. I love their colors and patterns. Some of the linen is heavier (think upholstery- sofas, chairs, etc) and some is light as air ( perfect for sheers or a bed canopy).

Above are various patterns you will find in the showroom

Above are two examples of C & C Milano linens- warm and inviting fabrics that age beautifully.

Above are bed linens for C & C Milano by Karim Rashid

Embroidery Collection:

Their embroidery collection is gorgeous. Haute couture interior design. Fabrics, threads, and designs can all be customized.

They keep a supply of pillow cases and throws in the showroom. The perfect finishing touch at the end of a project.

All of the above designs can be customized and used for anything. We have used them for the edge of drapes, benches, sofas, club chairs, headboards, and wall upholstery.

Below is an example of a wall we upholstered with one of these custom designs:

4. Katie Ridder’s fabric line

1. Katie Ridder’s fabric: Beetlecat

2. Katie Ridder’s fabric: Peony

I am eyeing both of these fabrics for a nursery.

How much fun are these! With painterly brushstrokes in beautiful rich hues I am dying to use these silks as drapes for a client. Amanda Nisbet’s fabrics are all beautiful my these are definitely my favorites.

For the sporty man: Drive an hour and a half outside of NYC and take aim at clays at Sandanona Shooting Grounds in Millbrook, NY. Once a tweedy private shooting club (the oldest in the country), Sandanona was purchased by Orvis, the outdoor sports clothier, and opened to the masses. Sip coffee and roam the wood-shingled clubhouse before being outfitted for a twenty-gauge shotgun (manageable for beginners) and taking in a gun-safety lecture. Then head out for a round on the world-class sporting-clays course.

Make a weekend out of it and stay the night in town at the Porterhouse Inn. While in Millbrook be sure to check out the Millbrook Vineyards and Winery, and the fine antique shops located in the village.

Whiskey:

There’s no drink quite like 18 year old Macallan ($124). Voted best whisky in the world by Whiskey Magazine in 2004, the 18 year vintage of The Macallan is consistently one of the most smooth drinking scotches in the world ( or so says my husband).

The art of shaving: Sandalwood shaving cream. My husband uses this and it is delicious. It has a distinct smell and makes his skin so soft. Irresistible.

For both of you:

Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne: Brut Rose – A beautiful soft salmon pink color with continuous tiny bubbles. The flavors of blackberries, raspberries, red currants, and strawberries give off a feeling of lightness.

Recommended pairings: Salmon tartare, pork tenderloin, fresh goat cheese, red fruits.

Then head to Wallse for their valentine’s day pre-fix menu. Austrian food with a refined light twist. The restaurant has a decidedly romantic feel with towering branches of flowers in the windows and on the bar.

Top it all off with dessert from Billy’s Bakery ( my favorite cupcakes in the city!)

Treillage- finds at 75th Street

As I said in an earlier post, Treillage is one of my favorite stores. The space itself is beautiful- with two massive green painted doors that welcome you into the store. John Rosselli and Bunny Williams own it ( Bee Line home, John Rosselli antiques) and with their eyes searching for each piece you know you will find a special piece. Bunny Williams book “An Affair with a House” was one of the first design books I purchased. It chronicles her romance with her country home. Like the store, her country home is filled with beautiful possessions but the overall feeling is one of comfort. The store carries both antique and new pieces, indoor and outdoor furniture, lighting, and garden-wares.

A few of my favorite pieces from Bunny’s new line of furniture:

Regale Arm Chair – Painted

As the Italians did in the 18th century, this regally proportioned character chair has hand-carved details and an upholstered pop in box back (held by decorative metal clips) and slip seat. These versatile features make seasonal upholstery changes simple. Available in painted antique white or medium stained walnut finish. Fabric options: Taupe and moss linen twill, sable linen or customer’s own material (COM).

MEASUREMENTS
26 ¾ ”W x 25”D x 40”OAH x 16 ½” SH

Eglomise Coffee Table

The couture of coffee tables, strutting a 1940’s forged base of gilded iron with an inset, Verre églomisé, (reverse gilt and painted glass) Fortuny inspired design interpreted by Miriam Ellner, on sea green ground.

MEASUREMENTS
40”W x 24”D x 15 ½”H

Hourglass Table

This sensuous table with an hourglass figure is reminiscent of 1940’s Paris. An octagonal pedestal base of hand-applied reeded mahogany pieces finished in old gold patina support a honed, Tulung Agung stone top.

MEASUREMENTS
32”OAD x 28”H, 23” (Diameter base)

Palladian Partner’s Desk

Inspired by architect Palladio of the Neoclassical Period, this piece has hand- carved details and a flame crotch Mahogany inlay top. It is supported by bold arched ends and columnar legs with dual drawers and sectioned dividers on each side allowing this piece to be used as a console or desk. I believe every room needs a strong piece of furniture of architectural proportions.

MEASUREMENTS
60”W x 28”D x 30”H

Chicken Feather Pottery Lamp

Baluster formed ceramic lamp with lattice incised pattern inspired by Peruvian pottery in warm earth tone glazes. Hand-carved gadrooned base in gilt finish. Their ceramic lamps are hand-crafted in Jingdezhen where the secret of traditional Chinese porcelain was discovered 1700 years ago.

Nailhead Sofa

Don’t you love the shape of the base of this sofa?! Fully upholstered tight-back sofa with three loose seat cushions is proportioned for comfort. The apron boasts a whimsical curve and is trimmed in French nailheads. Sinuous spring construction. Available in taupe and moss linen twill, olive cotton velvet, or customer’s own material (COM).

MEASUREMENTS
74”W x 39”D x 37 ” H (back) x 16 ½ SH x 24 ½ SD
