Autumn Hues – Purple

Purple- eggplant, aubergine, plum, lavender, lilac, violet, mauve, lilac, mulberry, orchid, grape, amethyst, twilight. Purple represents royalty, creativity, romance, power, nobility, luxury, ambition, and sophistication. Dark purples lend a warm, sexy, quiet feeling to a room while light purples add a touch of romanticism. I love pairing deep aubergines with crisp apple greens, oranges, and silver or brass. While light purple leads me to blue and white china, grays, yellows, and mirrored furniture.

This room is so warm and feminine with soft lavender/ mauve walls, silk drapes, and french chairs.

A living room by Kelly Wearstler showcases a lavender geometric print rug with a deeper purple sofa and yellow and gold accents.

A room designer by Windsor Smith pairs up both light and dark purple with chocolate brown, crisp white, and pale teal.

Katie Ridder punches up the lilac walls with green, ivory, and bright orange.

David Kaihoi wraps his dining room/ living room entirely in purple.  The red chair and tiger print throw pillows mix it up a bit.

Amanda Nisbet takes the plunge into purple with a deeply tufted headboard set against a deep aubergine wall with hints of pink and chocolate brown.

Aerin Lauder’s dining room as featured in Elle Decor.  I love the deep dark plum walls and trim with the soft grayish plum zebra print table skirt.  The pale wood chairs work beautifully in the room.

Touches of purple:

Keeping the rest of the room neutral lets the focus fall on the table skirt of Janet De Botton’s library.

A tufted chair by Jeffrey Bilhuber upholstered in Malabar’s Carom

Two chairs upholstered in Madeline Weinrib’s purple luce silk ikat bring this living room to life.

Made Goods launches new items!

One of our favorite companies has just introduced 60 new styles of mirrors, accent furniture, chandeliers, and objects. I will be seeing them in person soon at the New York Gift Show. Can’t wait!

Blake mirror: Now is white! Crafted from crushed Kabibi shells.  The shell is hand cut and molded in a soft, ruffled, round design.

Dawn mirror: Inspired by a beautiful vintage necklace, thin metal rods wrap a central mirror and terminate with a slight flare. This is a personal favorite.

Diana mirror: An updated version of a Venetian style mirror. A large round mirror framed with an antique mirror border that has back etched circles and floral motif overlays.

Fiona mirror: A geometric floral motif with a narrow border in three different materials ( bone, metal, and mirror).

Tavis mirror: A zebraesque pattern in black and white created with shells.

Anna: New colors for the faux shagreen boxes accented with ceramic shell handles.

Elmas: cream and brown patterned bone tray

Gala: Carved bone boxes with an oval shape

Lila: Hand painted silk panels with a floral motif.

Ines chair: Traditional Rajasthan bone inlay updated with a simplified pattern, fresh colors, and a quality linen seat cover.  Perfect for a desk or dining chair.

Henry:  Made with over 100 bead drops and finished with two types of circular discs: luminous mother of pearl and translucent capis.  Finished with antique gold metal detailing. Very glam.

Silvana: A classic empire chandelier is made fresh and airy through the use of pure white shells. An antiqued silver frame reinforces the casual vintage vibe

NYIGF Report: Julian Chichester

JJulian Chichester is always a go to source for me. I loved their new arm chair with a small loosely tufted quatrefoil pad for your back. The long buffet is also good looking with it’s mirrored panels.

The shagreen chest of drawers knocks tradition on it’s head. The curvaceous shape makes you take a second look and the shagreen is beautiful. The same goes for the tall brass bookcases with shagreen shelves. Yum!
