Prada Spring 2011 Campaign

In New York it is snowing, freezing, and all together nasty. The winter doldrums are upon us and everyone needs a mental break. Sping is one of the best seasons in New York. The Winter storms let up and with the disappearance of the last snowflake you can feel people’s spirits rising. The Spring 2011 add campaigns get me in the mood for a tropical vacation. Stripes, bold colors, and fun accessories are my cure for the winter blues. Prada’s collection has me particularly excited. I could definitely rock any of their Spring shoes or cocktail dresses. Bold colors and raffia are a great combination!

New York Fashion Week: Marchesa Spring 2011

Iconic, red carpet, show stopping dresses. The dresses for Spring did not disappoint- all exquisitely wrought with orientalist-inspired details: heavily bejeweled necklines, hand-painted florals on rolling sculptural drapes, and grand obilike loops that were revealed when a model turned. They conjure up images of all the most magnificent leading ladies of our time and in the past.  You can bet we will see many of these dresses come Oscar time.

New York Fashion Week: Oscar de la Renta Spring 2011 and Oscar de la Renta for Lee Jofa

While some pieces from the spring collection were a bit too retro for me I loved the 3 looks below.  I am always a fan of his embroidery and his lady like dresses.

Oscar’s new fabric collection with Lee Jofa is fabulous! Rich embroidery, velvets, wools, felts, ikats, and stripes make this collection one you want to touch.  Perfect for fall!

I MUST use these for a future client…. a headboard, drapes, wall upholstery….please! The embroidery is stunning and the colors are so rich.

A beautiful ikat fabric in light blue, teal, and green

A rythmic classic stripe in deep navy and blue.

A wild suzani in plums, reds, teals, and yellow packs a punch and would be lovely on club chairs.

New York Fashion Week: 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2011

Phillip Lim’s collection showcased his familiar look of clean, neutral, sportswear but added a twist. He used sheer fabrics and applied them in an abstract/ puzzle piece-like way. As usual, the collection had several must have pieces:

From left to right:

1. This trench is a modern classic. I love the black piping!

2. Those shorts are a must for spring. I love the whole look.

3.  The perfect shift dress with a clean young feel.

New York Fashion Week: J. Mendel Spring 2001

Sighhhh… When the inspiration is prima ballerina ( Earlier this summer, Gilles designed the costumes for the New York City Ballet’s production of Call Me Ben; then he shot his Resort lookbook in the dance studio) you know the collection will be light, ethereal, and down right feminine.  The collection was made up of pale silk chiffon and jersey with a bright pop of orange found in the Christian Louboutin shoes and lipstick.  A few of my favorite looks below:
